As the weather warms up and we lace up our gym shoes to explore the outdoors, you can find a little motivation by training for races in the area.

Events from walks to half marathons are coming to a neighborhood near you. Sign up for one or two in order to kick start the outdoor running season. Some of the races are for a cause, so you will be doing something good for yourself and the community.

2011 Ravenswood Run, a neighborhood 5K
May 1, 2011 | 4550 N. Hermitage Ave
This 5K is a neighborhood event, running through scenic city streets, and benefiting two local charities.

American Cancer Society Walk & Roll
May 15, 2011 | Grant Park 200 E. Balbo Drive Upper Hutchinson Field
Choose from a 5-mile walk, 10-mile skate or 15-mile bike ride along the lakefront and through downtown Chicago.

Walk Now for Autism Speaks

A 3 mile walk route along the Chicago Lakefront featuring a family friendly after party and autism resource fair.

Liver Life Walk

The Liver Life Walk is the national fundraising walk of the American Liver Foundation.

Fleet Feet Sports Soldier Field 10 Mile

The race features a scenic route along Chicago’s lakefront path. The proceeds from the Fleet Feet Sports Soldier Field 10 Mile will benefit the American Cancer Society and Salute INC.

United Run for the Zoo

A 5K run or walk and 10K run through the zoo and Lincoln Park. Features a Zebra Zip for kids at 10 a.m.

Jim Gibbons 5K Traffic Jam
June 16, 2011 | Lincoln Park South Field House, 1800 N. Stockton Dr
A 5K run and 3K walk in honor of Gibbons, the late investigative reporter from Chicago.

Fleet Feet Sports Women’s 5K & 10K
July 17, 2011 | Montrose Harbor
The largest 5K and 10K for women in the Midwest. The course runs around Montrose Harbor and finishes with a post-race festival. Co-ed race for kids.

9th Annual Run for Gus
July 28, 2011 | Diversey Harbor
5K Run and 1 mile Fun Walk at Diversey Harbor in Lincoln Park, Chicago, to raise money for research and support services for pediatric brain tumor patients.
